What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is an exciting new way to straighten your teeth without the metal brackets and braces frequently used in the past. Straightening teeth, relieving crowding, and filling tooth gaps used to require a difficult process of cementing brackets to the teeth and monthly tightening procedures — not to mention missing out on some of your favorite foods. Now, with the help of this series of virtually invisible trays (called aligners), your teeth will grow straighter over a period of about a year, without ever having to be placed in braces. Whether you have extensive work to be done on your teeth, or just minor adjustments to make, Invisalign® can improve your smile. If you need serious orthodontic work, Dr. Jill and Dr. Lara will work with a local orthodontist to ensure you get the proper care for your teeth.

Invisalign® is revolutionary in that it provides a discreet alternative for people who want a dramatic improvement in their smile without the pain or general annoyance of braces. Because Invisalign® trays are removable, they can also be taken out to eat and drink, as well as to brush and floss, thus providing for better oral hygiene while you are in treatment. With Invisalign®, there will be no major changes to your lifestyle. Your Invisalign® treatment will consist of a series of aligners that you switch out about every two weeks. Each aligner is individually manufactured with exact calculations to gradually shift your teeth into place. And since your Invisalign® system is custom-made for your teeth and your teeth only, with a plan devised by you and your dentist, you know you'll end up with a smile that truly fits.

How can I get started with Invisalign®?

The Invisalign® process is begun by a simple consultation with Dr. Jill or Dr. Lara, during which they will assess your bite, take some photos and impressions, and discuss your goal for a beautiful, healthy smile. Once the decision is made to start treatment, the dentist will use the most accurate materials to take impressions of your teeth, which will then be sent to the Align Technology Lab. At Align Technology, they will create a three-dimensional image of your teeth, and use advanced computer software to show the movements needed to make teeth straight. Finally, they will create a series of clear plastic aligners designed specifically for your dental needs. You will receive a new aligner about every two weeks until the end of your treatment, which generally lasts about a year. You’ll visit your dentist about every six weeks to ensure your treatment is progressing as planned.
