Dr. Jill, Dr. Lara, Dr. Cara and our entire team feel called to serve people. We feel that we are each called to provide care and compassion to our local community and to communities abroad. Since opening in 2004 Dr. Jill and Dr. Lara have participated in community fundraising opportunities for local parks and programs, educated children about oral hygiene and proper nutrition, provided dental sealants and dental screenings free of charge and collected candy for Operation Gratitude each year in our Candy Graveyard. Dr. Lara has served in the past with North Dallas Shared Ministries and First Refuge Dental, providing free dental care to residents of Dallas and Denton. Dr. Jill, Dr. Lara, and Dr. Cara have all participated in the Texas Mission of Mercy, a 1-to-2-day event providing free dental care in various areas of the state of Texas.
In 2011, Dr. Lara took a leap of faith which has added an entire new calling of service to our team. Dr. Lara was asked to participate in a mission trip to San Andres Semetabaj, Guatemala with her hometown church, First Baptist Church, Atlanta, Texas. Dr. Lara worked hard for months to collect funds, dental materials and equipment to carry with her down to Guatemala. In June 2011, she successfully opened a temporary dental clinic in a church at New Hope in San Andres Semetabaj, Guatemala and provided extractions by herself for 6 days! When she returned, her photos and stories were inspiring to our team. Within weeks of her return, the new Pastor at the church Dr. Jill attends, Prosper United Methodist, approached her with an opportunity to travel to Puerto Lempira, Honduras to do dental work for the children at an orphanage, and Dr. Jill committed to a second mission for our office. In June 2012, Dr. Lara returned to Guatemala with her dental assistant, Stephanie, and as a team they were able to take more equipment and provided extractions and dental sealants for the people of New Hope. Also in June 2012, Dr. Jill and her assistant, Denise, traveled to Puerto Lempira, Honduras and served with Send Hope at the House of Hope. They provided dental care for the children of the orphanage. These life changing experiences gave us a new perspective on dentistry and a renewed passion for our service in dentistry.
In June 2013, Dr. Lara and Stephanie returned once again to Guatemala and were able to increase their services even further by having enough equipment to take down to provide extractions, sealant and fillings. Dr. Jill and Denise returned to Puerto Lempira, Honduras and served at the House of Hope and also traveled to a remote village called Aurata and lived in the village for 2 days. While living in the village, they worked with Dr. Tom Brian, the founder of the Send Hope, and delivered dental care in a small church.
In 2014, Dr. Lara traveled with Mission Regan, a non-profit medical charity based in McKinney, to Garneton, Zambia, to set up the first ever mission dental clinic in their village. They served a school run by the international charity Lifesong for Orphans and the surrounding community of Garneton. In 2015, Stephanie accompanied Dr. Lara to add the option of placing dental sealants on the children’s teeth. In 2016, Dr. Lara traveled to Ghana to perform dental sealants, fluoride treatments, and extractions for the children at the House of Hope orphanage and the villagers of the surrounding areas.
