Safety & Comfort

At Prosper Family Dentistry, it is our goal to make sure each patient feels at ease in our office. We offer a variety of comforts while you are in the dental chair to make sure you feel relaxed during your appointment. Also, everyday we follow specific office protocols to make sure that you health is protected.

Chair-side Comforts

GirlHeadphonesMovies or Music

During your visit you have the option of selecting a DVD movie, Netflix show or Pandora music station to enjoy. Noise-cancelling headphones are provided.  For young children, we recommend that you bring their favorite movie on DVD for them to watch during their treatment.

If you have some anxiety about your dental visit, we can offer one of three types of sedation. Please discuss your anxiety with Dr. Jill or Dr. Cara, and they can help you decide which type of sedation is right for you.

Nitrous Oxide/Laughing Gas

Nitrous oxide helps you relax during you visit and has no lasting side effects following your appointment.

Oral Sedation

For those patients who have a greater level of anxiety, oral sedation may be the best choice. After discussing your medical history and anxiety level with our doctors, they may prescribe a sedative medication which is taken in our office 1 hour prior to your scheduled appointment. You must have a driver if this type of sedation is used. Oral sedation allows most patients to doze off during their appointment. If this type of sedation is used, the doctors and their assistants will monitor your blood pressure, breathing and responsiveness during the entire appointment.

IV Sedation

Another option for severely anxious patients is IV sedation.  We are privileged to work with a local medical anesthesiologist who will perform IV sedation in our office so that your treatment is performed in a comfortable atmosphere, and not a hospital setting.  Please discuss your desire for IV sedation with your doctor, and the appropriate arrangements will be made.

Infection Control

To protect both you and our staff from possible hazards, our practice uses “universal precautions.” This means we follow the current recommendations of the American Dental Association (ADA), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Occupational Safety Hazard Administration (OSHA) for sterilization and safety. We are committed to following specific, methodical steps to ensure your peace of mind and complete safety at all times. Our Sterilization Center provides a streamlined system to allow for proper cleaning and sterilization of all equipment. It also prevents cross-over of contaminated and sterile instruments. In addition, our practice also uses an isolated water bottle system in each treatment area to ensure fresh and clean water each day. Prosper Family Dentistry also utilizes the Hydrim ultrasonic instrument cleaning system to automate the washing, rinsing, drying and sterilization of dental instruments.
